Professional communicators in Qatar and the region can receive professional training in their fields as part of a series of masterclasses Northwestern University in Qatar will be offering in 2019. As part of its Executive Education in Communication and Media program will feature sessions aimed specific needs in Qatar including health, sport, and strategic communication.

“As a leader in the fields of communication and media, Northwestern University in Qatar is by dint of its faculty and professional expertise well-positioned present these courses for working professionals and others interested in advanced education,” said Everette E. Dennis, dean and CEO of NU-Q.

This executive, midcareer, and post-graduate education has long been planned by NU-Q to expand on its established undergraduate program. An inaugural masterclass series on sport, media, and business was presented in spring 2018, but the full-blown program was organized on the arrival of Dr. Jairo Lugo-Ocando, director of Executive and Graduate Education. 

“With his leadership, we now have a full set of courses that will be taught be some of the world’s leading experts from academia and major health, sport, and media organizations. In this way, NU-Q can contribute to the growing talent pool of communication professionals and interested laypersons in the country and region,” Dennis said. 

The program is open to individuals working in these respective fields as well as recent graduates and others who are making a career transition to strategic, health or sport communication as well as those for whom this training will have benefit.

The Executive Education in Communication and Media at NU-Q will offer three masterclasses during the Spring semester:

Strategic Communication, Reputation, and Resilience in Times of Change

Resilience has become one of the key issues in strategic and crisis communications. What strategies do organizations have to implement to confront sudden change? This executive course will examine how to use strategic communications to improve the resilience of organizations and institutions’ reputation.

Sport Communication, Marketing, and Governance

March 17, 24, and 31
9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Examines successful sport organizations that have developed new audiences and revenues around their engagement with sport and how they use it to penetrate emerging markets such as China, India, and the Middle East. It also explores how media mega-events like the World Cup and the Olympics can be utilized to improve marketing opportunities.

Effective Strategies for Health Communication

April 14, 15, and 16

The healthcare industry is being dramatically transformed. Governments, private companies, and non-profit health organizations operating nationally and internationally are facing important challenges and opportunities. Changing demographics in the region and changing patterns in media consumption habits mean that health campaigns and health communication need to be rethought in ways in which they consider the transformation of public opinion and the media technologies in general.

NU-Q’s executive education program will engage individuals and enable them to have an inclusive, immersive learning experience that goes beyond the classroom. The instructors NU-Q has invited to lead the courses will modify their presentations through teaching strategies, case studies, and examples tailored to the participants and the specific topics. Courses combine lecturers from universities and the industry who can supply knowledge and skills based on research and experience.
