American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar hosts panel on upcoming U.S. elections

February 17, 2016

The American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar (AmCham Qatar) hosted a special edition of its popular Distinguished Speaker Series as part of the second annual Discover America Week, February 15-22 in Doha. A panel of international media experts tackled the upcoming U.S. presidential election in a lively debate, “Presidential Predictions Forum: Media, Politics and Campaign 2016.”

The panel was moderated by Northwestern Qatar Dean and CEO Everette E. Dennis and included three prominent panelists: Clyde Wilcox, professor of political science at the Georgetown School of Foreign Service in Qatar; Jocelyn Mitchell, assistant professor of liberal arts at Northwestern University in Qatar; and Yasir Khan, Al Jazeera English producer and documentary filmmaker.

AmCham Qatar Chairman Robert A. Hager said, “AmCham Qatar is closely following developments in the American election cycle, one of the most passionate and hardest to call in recent history. We are here to support American businesses in Qatar and those interested in doing business in the U.S. and having the latest, most accurate intelligence from the campaign trail and its potential impact on businesses in the U.S. and Qatar is just the sort of insight that our members look to us to supply.”

The active panel discussions offered a thoughtful perspective on what to expect from the ongoing race for the U.S. presidency. The panelists reviewed media coverage of the campaign and the underlying meanings behind the rhetoric, as well as shared insights on how to gauge outcomes of the election cycle and its impact on international relations between the U.S. and the rest of the world.

“We wanted to bring some of the spirit of political debate to the AmCham event and help attendees break through some of the noise surrounding the debate and find out what’s behind the headlines. Ultimately, it’s important to be able to determine what can make a difference for American citizens, those living abroad, as well as our relations with our international partners. I commend AmCham Qatar for hosting this engaging event,” said Dean Dennis.
