The second edition of the Global Media Symposium brings together scholars, graduate students, and media professionals to explore emerging disruptions in the global media order. Hosted by Northwestern University in Qatar, this two-day event focuses on new players, platforms, and policies shaping media flows, especially in and from the Global South.

Key Dates:
The Global Media Symposium invites submissions for the 2026 edition, themed Fresh Global Media Players: Disrupting the Digital Ecosystem?. This in-person event seeks critical, comparative, and interdisciplinary perspectives on emerging shifts in global media power, particularly across the Global South.
We welcome submissions from across media studies, communication, cultural studies, STS, and related fields.
Selected papers will be considered for inclusion in a peer-reviewed academic journal special issue. Full papers must be submitted by January 31, 2026 to be eligible.

The full conference program—including speakers, panel topics, workshop leaders, and the lunch chat guest—will be released on February 20, 2026. Check back for updates.
Accepted presenters will receive travel and lodging support. Details will be shared upon acceptance.
If you require a visa to enter Qatar, we will provide assistance with documentation.
The conference will be conducted in English. Interpretation will be provided for selected sessions.
