Message from the Dean
To Prospective Students:
Thank you very much for your interest in Northwestern University in Qatar.
Northwestern University is enormously pleased to be a partner with the Qatar Foundation in providing an outstanding university education in communication and journalism in Education City.
In November, at a brief ceremony at which the agreement between Northwestern and the Qatar Foundation was announced, the Foundation’s Vice President for Education, Dr. Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, eloquently described the importance of communication in society: “A vibrant, healthy media scene will bring about greater transparency and accountability, and these are hallmarks of successful, participative societies.” I encourage you to read Dr. Abdulla’s complete statement.
Northwestern University, and its School of Communication and Medill School of Journalism are keenly aware of the importance of this enterprise and are committed to providing in Doha the curricula and teaching that bear the hallmarks of excellence that have brought international recognition to our US-based programs. Given its growing importance as a cultural and communications center in the Gulf region, Doha provides an especially rich environment for teaching and learning.
For many years, graduates of our US-based programs have gone on to distinguished careers in journalism, film, television and other media industries. We are confident that graduates of Northwestern University in Qatar will soon be recognized throughout the region — and indeed the world — as leaders in their professions.
We look forward to welcoming our first class of students this summer, and we hope you will consider joining us as members of that inaugural class.
Sincerely,
John D. Margolis, PhD
Dean
