About

Hariclea Zengos is senior associate dean and the director of the NU-Q Liberal Arts Program. She also teaches courses in literature and literary studies. Her achievements have focused on academic excellence and institutional improvement. Most recently, she served as associate dean for academic affairs in the Office the Provost at the American College of Greece where she previously served as associate dean in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She also served as the director of the English Language program and department head for English and Modern Languages. 

Zengos holds a PhD in English from Tufts University and an MA in English from Clark University. She also earned an MEd at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education where she studied higher education administration and has a BA in English from the American College in Greece. Prior to her appointments in Athens, she was a lecturer in English at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts and also taught English composition at Tufts while completing her doctorate there.

Her scholarly publications include an edited volume on Eleftherios Venizelos: Unknown Aspects of the Man and a variety of book chapters and refereed articles including literary biography studies of author and journalist Lafcadio Hearn, a major figure in introducing Japanese culture to the U.S., about whom she is also editing a book. She has also written about Greek-Australian literature and presented conference papers on post-colonial writers. Her honors, awards, and other recognitions include fellowships at Yale’s Gilder Lehman Institute of American History and the Salzburg Global Seminar. In 2017, she was selected by New York University’s Faculty Resource Network to co-direct a workshop on “Uprooted and Displaced: Refugees, Immigrants, and Exiles in World Literature.”
